Confirm the business and its public information

Verify the name, location, phone, website and service area with the client. Review the Business Profile and relevant directory sources for material inconsistencies. Record who controls each account and who can approve changes. Separate harmless formatting differences from wrong information that could misdirect a customer.

Assign confirmed corrections and retain the source URL, request date and live verification. Do not mark a directory issue complete simply because a submission was made. Publishers can require verification or take time to apply a change.

Check the site and measurement baseline

Confirm that important pages return the intended status, can be crawled and have a clear canonical URL. Review page titles, headings, internal links and accurate contact information. Add structured data only for supported facts shown on the page. Test a customer’s contact path on a phone as well as a desktop.

Choose the search queries and coordinates for your initial visibility scan. Record the source, grid settings and date. A stable baseline is necessary before reporting a change in map coverage.

Connect the checklist to client delivery

Prioritize findings by impact, confidence, effort and ownership. Give each accepted action a completion check. In the monthly report, separate completed work, search observations and recorded business outcomes. Keep this checklist with the client’s project so the next review can return to unresolved items rather than starting a new disconnected audit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ranking guarantee?

No. It is a delivery checklist for useful, verifiable work. Search visibility depends on factors beyond the completion of a checklist.

How often should we repeat it?

Use it at onboarding and after important changes, then revisit relevant sections during regular reviews. The right cadence depends on the work and the client’s risk.

Can I edit the download for my agency?

Yes. The Markdown checklist is an editable starting point. Add your service scope, owners and verification dates before using it with a client.
