Get Manager access to a client's Google Business Profile
The client signs in with Google on your onboarding link and chooses their business. Agency Pilot adds your agency's Google login as a Manager of that Business Profile — the role Google recommends for agencies — and starts reporting views, calls, direction requests and search keywords.
Google Business Profile at a glance
- How access is granted
- Automatically. Your Google login is added as a Manager of the business account the client chooses.
- Role requested
- Manager. Owner and Primary owner are never requested.
- What your client needs
- Owner or Manager on the profile, signed in with that Google login.
- Feeds into Agency Pilot
- Profile views on Search and Maps, calls, direction requests, website clicks and the top 25 search keywords.
- Service-area businesses
- Supported. Hidden-address listings are handled the same way.
- Data delay
- Google publishes Business Profile performance 2–3 days late.
What your client does
On the onboarding link you send. No password is ever asked for or shared.
- 1
Opens the link and sees that your agency is asking to be a Manager on their Business Profile.
- 2
Clicks Connect and signs in with the Google login that manages the profile.
- 3
Chooses the business if the login manages several, and clicks Share this one.
- 4
Sees Business Profile marked Connected.
What happens on your side
- Your agency's Google login is added as a Manager — the same as the client inviting you under People and access, without the invitation hunt.
- Connected accounts shows Added, or Already had access.
- Views, calls, direction requests and keywords start appearing on the client dashboard.
- The listing can be used straight away in geo grid scans and the Business Profile audit.
Business Profile roles
| Role | What it allows | On an Agency Pilot link |
|---|---|---|
| Primary owner | Owns the profile. Only one per profile; can transfer ownership and remove anyone. | Never offered |
| Owner | Everything a manager can do, plus adding and removing users and deleting the profile. | Never offered |
| Manager | Edit business information, hours, photos and posts; reply to reviews; see performance. | Offered — the only role requested |
Adding a manager by hand
- 1
While signed in to the Google login that owns the profile, search Google for the business name (or open Google Maps and select it).
- 2
In the business panel, click the three-dot menu and choose Business Profile settings.
- 3
Click People and access, then Add.
- 4
Enter the agency's email address, set access to Manager and click Invite.
- 5
The agency accepts the invitation from the email Google sends.
Agencies with many locations often use a Business Profile organization account and location groups. Those work with manual invitations to the group; links grant access per business.
What the Business Profile connection feeds
- Profile views on Google Search and Maps, calls, direction requests and website clicks on the client dashboard.
- The top 25 search keywords that showed the profile.
- Business Profile columns and the channel filter in Mission Control.
- A reliable listing ID for geo grid scans, the Business Profile audit and review monitoring.
Exactly what we ask Google Business Profile for
A link only requests the permissions the platforms on it need. Nothing here is used for anything other than the reason next to it. More on how we handle access.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| business.manage | Reads performance for the client's listing and — only on a link that asks for access — adds your agency's login as Manager of the one account the client chooses. |
| openid, email, profile | Labels which Google login the connection belongs to. |
Removing access later
- 1
Business Profile settings → People and access → the three dots next to the agency's email → Remove.
- 2
End the reporting connection from Onboarding → Connected accounts or the client's Google Account third-party connections.
If something doesn't work
The business isn't in the list
The client signed in with a login that isn't an owner or manager of the profile. Ask them to check which account manages it at business.google.com.
The profile is suspended or unverified
Google doesn't allow users to be added until the profile is verified and reinstated. Sort that out first, then reopen the link.
It says the account has too many locations to pick from
The client manages many listings. They can search the list on the link, or add you to a location group by hand.
Google Business Profile: common questions
- Why Manager and not Owner?
- Manager covers everything an agency does day to day — edits, posts, photos, review replies, performance. Keeping ownership with the business protects both sides if you part ways.
- Can I report on a profile I don't manage?
- Yes. Geo grid scans, the Business Profile audit and review monitoring work from public data, so you can use them on prospects before they sign.
- Does this work for service-area businesses with no address?
- Yes. Access is by business account, and the geo grid matches hidden-address listings by their Maps ID.
- Will the client get an email?
- Google may notify owners when someone is added. The link page tells them to expect it.
