Agency Pilot geo grid showing location-specific ranking results across a service area
A geo-grid scan preserves the geographic context behind a ranking result. Sample agency data.

Define the surface you are measuring

Google Maps, the Local Finder and regular organic results are different views. Agency Pilot supports separate scan sources so you can investigate each. A Finder result should not be described as a direct screenshot of every searcher’s live three-pack. Identify the measured surface beside the result and retain that distinction in exported or shared reports.

Keep coordinates and queries comparable

Use the same business, query, center, point layout and depth when you want a like-for-like comparison. Differences between two sources are worth investigating, but they do not independently prove which ranking factor caused the difference. Inspect the profiles and pages appearing at the affected points and document changes made between observations.

Use findings to choose the next investigation

Look at coverage, individual neighborhoods and the competitors appearing in those locations. Select a practical question: a weak service page, incomplete profile information or a competitor’s stronger presence. Assign the investigation and preserve its evidence. A map observation is useful when it helps choose work and verify the next result, rather than simply decorating a monthly presentation.

Frequently asked questions

Does one scan cover both Maps and Finder?

Each source is a separate scan with its own credit use. Plan both explicitly when the engagement needs both sets of observations.

Why do two sources show different rankings?

They measure different search surfaces. Results also depend on the query, coordinates and observation context. Compare the settings before drawing a conclusion.

Can I promise a top-three position after a scan?

No. A scan records visibility and helps investigate opportunities. It does not control Google’s ranking system or guarantee a future position.
